Number of Female Drivers Grows by 1.5x
In honor of National Women’s Day, the ride-hailing service Maxim conducted a study revealing a significant increase in the number of female drivers. As of 2025, the platform has seen 1.5 times rise in women drivers compared to 2023.
Cape Town leads with the highest share—over 50% of all female drivers—followed by Bloemfontein and Gqeberha.
This shift reflects changing trends in the passenger transport market, traditionally dominated by men. The service welcomes drivers with personal vehicles, offering equal opportunities regardless of gender.
"My husband and I have three kids. When he lost his job, we needed a way to survive. While he searched for work, I started driving for Maxim—and I loved it. I set my own hours, balanced it with household duties, and even after he found a new job, I kept driving for extra income," shares Patricia R., a Maxim driver-partner.
Additionally, the platform’s Female Driver fare option enhances safety and comfort for both passengers and women drivers.
"We’ve seen steady growth in female driver-partners, aligning with our equal-opportunity policy," said Lemphane Lesoli, Maxim’s South Africa manager.
Marking National Women’s Day, the company highlights the importance of women’s professional advancement across all sectors, including transport services.
