Taking a break from big city bustle. Ride-hailing users choose quietest towns in South Africa to travel to

The Maxim ride-hailing app team analysed its user behaviour and found out that the number of intercity rides tripled in 2024.

Here’s the top four towns the residents and guests of South Africa travelled to from Cape Town in 2024:

Paarl is a heaven for wine connoisseurs. This place, located 60 kilometres away from Cape Town, is the country’s best-known wine-making centre. It also features golf courses, nice restaurants and stunning views. The youngest guests of the town will enjoy The Alpaca Loom Coffee Shop & Weaving Studio where they will get to pet friendly alpaca, camels and donkeys.

Stellenbosch is located 50 kilometres east of Cape Town. The town is famous for its wine farms and daily wine tasting events. Stellenbosch has many promenades and art galleries. Maxim recommends taking a walk-in picturesque Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden and Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden.

Located 120 kilometres away from the capital, Hermanus offers its guests a unique type of entertainment: in this coastal town, you can watch whales right from the shore. Hermanus also has many scenic promenades and fine restaurants.

Yzerfontein. A small coastal town 80 kilometres north of the capital is a popular choice for a beach holiday among the residents and visitors alike. The town’s motto is Mare didat flores decorant which means “The sea nourishes, the flowers adorn” in Latin.

Currently, the share of intercity rides is only 5 % of the total number of all orders, but it shows an upward trend.

The trends are changing as people are getting more and more interested in travelling and exploring new directions. According to Maxim’s experts, the number of intercity rides in 2025 will grow by about 30 %. Maxim continues to improve the quality of its services and is constantly introducing new features to its users.
